Young Photographer of the Year Results!
This
year the Young Photographer of the Year 2012 Competition has received a
record number of entries from young people across Herefordshire and
beyond, some entries coming as far as Switzerland. The competition, now
in its 12th year has inspired over 160 young people to interpret this
year’s theme, Looking Forward, and captures amazing moments in time for
all those who entered.
The exhibition showcases a vast array of
photographic styles from young people aged 9-19 years old,
incorporating: black and white photography, holiday shots, landmark
moments, action shots and portraiture. Portraiture became a particular
favourite with entrants this year, - one of the oldest genres of
photography – but whatever the style; the College has been overwhelmed
by the standard of entries across all ages.
With photography
being as accessible as ever, it is now possible to capture un-missable
moments in time on mobile devices and affordable digital cameras, and
this is reflected in the vast array of photographs. The judging process
was incredibly difficult and lengthy, and great debate took place
amongst our esteemed panel of judges. The winning entries and highly
commended were selected by pioneering photographer, John Bulmer, along
with Richard Heatly, Principal of Hereford College of Arts and Alex
Thimm , BA (Hons) Photography course leader.
The exhibition will be on display at Hereford College of Arts from the 23rd October - 23 November,
and will be a fantastic celebration of the young creative talent from
across the country. It will feature the work of the majority of
entrants, with special place going to our prize winners and highly
commended.
This exhibition is set to inspire all those who
entered and to encourage more young people across Herefordshire to get
snapping, ready for next year’s big competition. The College is very
grateful to Hereford Cathedral School who sponsored the competition this year.
